A Plan-Do-Check-Act Based Process Improvement Intervention for Quality Improvement

Waste from raw materials has a direct influence on the final price of product. However, since waste no added value to products, customers are unwilling pay for it. Reducing along production process and supply chain allows companies decrease costs remain competitive in product prices. This research is conducted medical device manufacturing company located Tijuana (Mexico). The found negative variation part number 9540, metallic foil used hot stamping. During inventory cycle counts, that they were purchasing rawer material than necessary due 50% generated process. We implemented two improvement methodologies, namely Practical Process Improvement (PPI) Plan-Do-Study-Act model, eliminate 100% waste, specifically regarding foil’s waste. project comprised phases: a) adjusting parameters stamping machine b) replacing with pad printing machine. In our research, PPI methodology presented 8 detailed stages as simple problem-solving method, contrast five reported other documented cases. case study presents how can apply continuous programs its managerial implications, even without having structured defined systems quality, such Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing implemented. After implementation phases, led economic savings $165,000 year.
